Ira Marcus Profile - Trial Attorney

Ira Marcus, Esquire Fort Lauderdale Trial Attorney

Ira Marcus has 45 years experience as an aggressive business and complex commercial litigation trial attorney, who has achieved extraordinary success and results for individuals, small corporations and publicly owned business clients. Ira Marcus has consistently been rated an AV pre-eminent lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell®, and has also been nationally recognized by his peers and included in publications "Best Lawyers in America", "Top Lawyers in Florida" in commercial litigation, and "Best Lawyers in Florida" in commercial litigation.

Mr. Marcus has represented thousands of business clients in State and Federal Court and arbitration panels in cases involving multi-million dollar claims.

Mr. Marcus is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer, achieving significant victories with appellate decisions for his clients, as well as favorable pre-trial settlements, avoiding the expense of trial.
(see Representative Cases).

Mr. Marcus is known as a "Lawyer's Lawyer" and is frequently retained to represent lawyers, law firms, or to take over cases from other lawyers. For example: Mr. Marcus represented a New York divorce lawyer who was sued in Florida for professional malpractice. After the trial court denied a motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction, Mr. Marcus successfully appealed that ruling, wherein the appellate court reversed the decision of the trial court, and instructed the trial court to grant the motion to dismiss, thereby ending the litigation.

Mr. Marcus, together with co-counsel, has represented many adult entertainment night club owners and successfully challenged City and County Ordinances on First Amendment grounds, thereby allowing these clubs to continue to legally operate.

Mr. Marcus has also acted as counsel in all types of corporate and business disputes, including shareholder actions, derivative actions, financial misconduct, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of confidentiality, trade secrets, corporate and Limited Liability Company dissolutions and shareholder and business valuations issues.

Mr. Marcus received his undergraduate degree from State University of New York at Buffalo in 1970 on an athletic scholarship. He attended New England School of Law in Boston graduating in 1973 Magna Cum Laude and Top of his Class, where he also served as an Editor of the Law Review.

Mr. Marcus, in addition to practicing commercial litigation in Boston, was selected as one of the youngest lecturers-in-law at the New England School of Law where he taught legal methods and writing and commercial law.

Mr. Marcus moved from Boston to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he established Ira Marcus, P.A., in 1980. While establishing his practice, Mr. Marcus taught Business Law at Florida Atlantic University.

Mr. Marcus' Firm has consistently provided pro bono legal services as a service to the community.

In 2004, Mr. Marcus acquired the Historic Frank Croissant House in Fort Lauderdale, built in 1925, to serve as the office of Ira Marcus, P.A.. Mr. Marcus orchestrated and supervised the full renovation and restoration of the building, such that it has been recognized as an iconic, local historic landmark.
